Golf Day at Tewkesbury Park 28th December 2012
Newsletter 29th December 2012
Outing to Tewkesbury Golf Club on Friday 28th December 2012
On a grey, but thankfully dry, Friday morning 27 members of the Society descended on Tewkesbury Park to work off the excesses of the Christmas period.
Over Bacon rolls and coffee the chairman welcomed our new member, Keith Burke, who narrowly missed being awarded the Chairman’s Cap for forgetting his change of clothing for dinner. However this privilege went to Andy Beale for seeking to apply the allowed generous clean and place rule to the greens.
The recent heavy rains made the course very muddy with a number of temporary greens. Despite the very poor course conditions amazingly there was vey little in the way of rain and everyone enjoyed the exercise and the banter.
In spite of the difficult course state there were some impressive stableford scores. Steve Jordan won the day with 38 points on count back from Warren McDivitt, with Michele Petruzzelli in third place with 36 points and new man Keith Burke in 4th place with 35 points. (Steve was able to win despite managing to leave his driver hanging in a tree for part of his round!) Neville Jelfs won nearest the pin (claimed to be his first) and Tom Barnes won nearest the pin in two. Congratulations to all winners.
Following the golf we were treated to a meal of Christmas fare before retiring to The Bell for après golf.
The next outing is on Wednesday 6th March at the Welcombe GC (entry list at The Bell) but before that is the
AGM on Monday 4th February at 8.00pm at The Bell and the

Outing to Wychwood Golf Club on 2nd November 2012
It is worth noting that exactly 11 years and 1 day ago on this golf course, then known as Lyneham GC, the first outing of The Bell Inn Golf Society was held. On that occasion 15 members and the coach driver made up the 16 players.
On this day again 16 members took part, the numbers down slightly due to business commitments and injuries.
Before commencing play the Chairman’s Cap was awarded to Steve Jordan again for forgetting his golf shoes, this forgetfulness is becoming a BGS habit!!
The Chairman also wished Elizabeth a full and speedy recovery from her broken leg.
A toast was also proposed to Tom & Nicola on their forthcoming wedding and all wished them a long and happy life together.
The weather gods again smiled on us albeit a sharp cold shower reminded us we were playing in November. Considering the recent heavy rain the course was in good condition with good greens and tees although a bit heavy under foot!
The Stableford competition was a closely fought affair with Simon Waldron winning on a very good 39 points just edging out Steve Heritage on 38 with Warren McDivitt third with 35 points.
Nearest the pin on the 6th was won by Mike Barnes with Warren McDivitt winning the nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th hole.
An excellent carvery was provided to end a most enjoyable day at Wychwood GC.
As customary the après golf was held at the 'club hous' which was enjoyed by the majority of the days’ players.
Our next outing is the post-Christmas meeting on Friday 28th December at Tewkesbury GC the entry list is at The Bell Inn.
Happy golfing

Once again the weather was outstanding as 24 members visited this gem of a course in Coleshill.
Before commencing play the Chairman’s Cap was awarded to Warren for being “twice or thrice forgetful” luckily he did remember his shoes this time, which is more than can be said for David Morris!!!! Warren being a member here was proud to point out the 6 times he appeared on the honours list boards.
This parkland course is heavily tree lined and with greens running at 12/13 on the Stimp meter (about 25 per cent faster than quick greens at Broadway) it is no wonder that scoring was difficult.
Local knowledge proved an advantage as Warren won the Stableford competition with 32 points Steve Heritage was runner up with Russ Ralph third both with 30 points.
The nearest the pin in two shots on the 4th hole was won by Ray Cordes, with Steve Jordan winning the nearest the pin in one shot on the 16th hole.
Congratulations went to Chairman Phil on becoming a grandfather – surely not old enough!!
An excellent golfer’s supper rounded of a great day at Maxstoke.
Après golf at The Clubhouse ended a very successful outing.
This round was the final qualifier for the McWolder Cup and Phil will shortly announce the team to take on The Coach & Horses at Evesham Golf Club on 30th September.

Newsletter 27th July 2012
The Golfing Gods once again shone on the 19 players who competed for the Summer Cup at Redditch Golf Club. The weather was very warm and sunny and one umbrella was needed as a parasol! (Easily mistaken for an ice cream salesman)
Before commencing play the Chairmans Cap was award to Mike Barnes who paraded it with pride and dignity.
The golf course was in excellent condition with fast greens which ran true but some tricky lines to read.
The Stableford competition was a close run thing with Maggie McDivitt in third place with 34 points, runner up was Russ Ralph on 37 points, BUT the winner on 38 points was our Chairman Phil Bennett. Surely this was the most deserved and popular winner in our Society as Phil had tried on no less than 80 games to win an outing day. Well done Phil we are delighted and proud of your perseverance.
The nearest the pin on the 11th hole was won by Roger Yeates, with Warren McDivitt winning the nearest the pin in 2 on the 9th hole.
Thanks to a previous society using all the hot water the cold showers for us were quite refreshing!
RGC provided a good golfers supper to round off a great day.
Our next outing is to Maxstoke Park Golf Club on Thursday 6th September full details to follow shortly. Entry sheet at the Bell.

setting out the Chairman's Cap was awarded to Russ Ralph who managed to enter
himself in competitions at Broadway and St. Pierre on the same day. A keen
golfer but that's pushing it a bit!!
A
closely fought competition resulted in a win for Duncan Beale and Tom Jelfs
with an excellent score of 44 points,( this with not scoring on the 17th).
Runners up were last year's winners Simon Waldron and Steve Heritage on 43
points with David Morris and Brian Downey in third place edging out Brian
Lawrence and Malcolm Hedges both with 39 points.
Nearest
the pin on the 18th hole was won by Brian Lawrence who with Malcolm
Hedges also won the nearest the pin in two on the 9th .
Well
done to all the winners and the 12 teams who took part to make this such an
enjoyable day.

A golfer's supper at DGC was followed by the après golf at The Bell.

Outing to Broadway Golf Club on 11th April 2012
A few thunderclaps and April showers failed to dampen an enjoyable game on our local course.
Before the 29 players set out Chairman Phil welcomed new member Brian Lawrence and hoped he would enjoy his membership of the society.
The awarding of the Chairman’s Cap was changed at the very last minute when Ray Cordes committed the cardinal sin of spilling the Chairman’s beer. Nice one Ray!!
Neville ( Bubber) Jelfs drove from the first tee with a vivid Pink driver as a tribute to Bubber Watsons’s win in the Masters. Unfortunately no camera was to hand, but a surprise to those who witnessed it.

Ray Cordes made amends with winning both the nearest the pin on the 8th and longest drive on the 17th.
Well done to the winners and all the participants.

Outing to The Vale Golf Club on 8th March 2012
The opening outing for the 2012 season was held at The Vale Golf Club in Evesham. The International course is one of the longest in the country and whilst the tees of the day were forward it still presented a challenge in distance. The greens generally were in good condition albeit that some were under treatment. After a full English breakfast 29 members played an individual Stableford competition, in pleasant early spring weather. The overall scoring reflected the difficulty that the length of the course presented but some excellent scores were recorded, not least by Warren McDivitt who won the event with 40 points from the ever steady Steve Heritage on 39 points with Duncan Beale (off his reduced handicap) in third place with 37 points.
Nearest the pin in one on the 5th hole was won by Steve Jordan
Nearest the pin in two on the 15th hole was won by Duncan Beale.
Well done to the winners and all the participants.
The Chairman's Cap was award to Mike Petruzzelli who was given special permission to wear it at the post golf dinner!!
A really enjoyable day concluded with après golf at the Clubhouse, where Neville won nothing in the swindle. No change there then.
Next outing at Broadway Golf Club on Wednesday 11th April
