Golf Day at Tewkesbury Park 28th December 2012
Newsletter 29th December 2012
Outing to Tewkesbury Golf Club on Friday 28th December 2012
On a grey, but thankfully dry, Friday morning 27 members of the Society descended on Tewkesbury Park to work off the excesses of the Christmas period.
Over Bacon rolls and coffee the chairman welcomed our new member, Keith Burke, who narrowly missed being awarded the Chairman’s Cap for forgetting his change of clothing for dinner. However this privilege went to Andy Beale for seeking to apply the allowed generous clean and place rule to the greens.
The recent heavy rains made the course very muddy with a number of temporary greens. Despite the very poor course conditions amazingly there was vey little in the way of rain and everyone enjoyed the exercise and the banter.
In spite of the difficult course state there were some impressive stableford scores. Steve Jordan won the day with 38 points on count back from Warren McDivitt, with Michele Petruzzelli in third place with 36 points and new man Keith Burke in 4th place with 35 points. (Steve was able to win despite managing to leave his driver hanging in a tree for part of his round!) Neville Jelfs won nearest the pin (claimed to be his first) and Tom Barnes won nearest the pin in two. Congratulations to all winners.
Following the golf we were treated to a meal of Christmas fare before retiring to The Bell for après golf.
The next outing is on Wednesday 6th March at the Welcombe GC (entry list at The Bell) but before that is the
AGM on Monday 4th February at 8.00pm at The Bell and the
Theme Night on 23rd February in the Village Hall- 50 years of James Bond
