Outing to the St. Pierre Golf Club on 30th June & 1st July

Shorts and tee shirts weather were the order of the days on our outing to Chepstow, we even did not need wellies for the Mathern course this year!
The Sunday play over the Mathern course was a multi competition event.
The award for the most colourful dressed player was to Roger (Orange Man) Yeates who complemented his outfit with a set of orange golf balls !
Stefan White looked resplendent in silk shirt and knee length white socks, and was awarded the 'Bobby Hooper lost cars keys' cap for managing to lose his car keys on the 1st hole, the thought of Stefan in colourful attire for the whole weekend was avoided when a young person found the keys on the course and order was restored.

SUNDAY
The individual Stableford and 1st leg of the St.Pierre Trophy was won by Simon Waldron with a magnificent 40 points with Elizabeth Milnes-James runner up on 34 points, Elizabeth also won the nearest to the pin on 6th hole Bobby Webb won the nearest to the pin in 2 shots on 12th hole.
The Bowmaker competition was won by the team consisting of Warren McDivitt, David McAteer, Simon Waldron and Mike Barnes.
The annual match between the Landlord versus Chairman teams resulted in a comfortable win for the Landlords team with 351 points to the Chairman’s team score of 335 points.
At the dinner presentation the Chairman’s Cap was awarded to Keith Burke for wearing the most outrageous jacket, the material was a left over from that used to make the deckchairs for Brighton beach.
An excellent meal was provided by SPGC.

MONDAY
A beautiful day greeted the players for an individual Stableford and 2nd leg for the St.Pierre Trophy. Simon taking a 6 shot lead into the second round over The Old course. Sun glasses were in need (not sure if this was the brightness of the sun or the remnants of the night before).
The Old course proved a tough test and was in good condition. Simon returned a creditable 29 points but this was not good enough as Maggie scored a terrific 40 points and with her score of 32 points on the Mathern course was the St.Pierre Trophy winner on 72 points. A very popular and well deserved champion.
Runner up was Simon Waldron 69 points
Third place Steve Heritage 65 points
Fourth place Mike Barnes 65 points
Fifth place Steve Webb 63 points.
Nearest the pin on the 3rd hole was won by Steve Heritage and Andy Beale winning nearest the pin in 2 shots on 10th hole.
A very enjoyable couple of days and with decent weather and the Mathern course playable it may be difficult to find a better venue for next year.

Both Stableford rounds counted towards the McWolder Cup team which Phil will announce shortly. The match will be played at Broadway Golf Club on Friday 12th July.

Our next outing is The Annual Day to be held at Bowood Golf Club on 8th/9th September. Full details are to follow.

Happy golfing
Russ Ralph.
