Greensomes
competition at Heythrop Park GC on 30th October 2014
This new venue is a good 9000 yards
walk with some treks through woods and by lakes and ponds to reach the next
tee. The course is a great layout and test of golf and stamina, especially as
the underfoot conditions were a bit muddy and heavy, but to be expected at this
time of year. (We are spoilt at Broadway
with its great drainage)
Unfortunately the general facilities
and food did leave some room for improvement this however did not detract from
a very enjoyable competition in good weather for the 11 pairs.
The
winners on the day were Maggie & Warren on a very creditable score of 37
points, on count back from Brian Lawrence & Steve Jordan with Chairman Phil
and Mick Lewis in third place on 33 points.
Nearest the pin on 6th
hole was won by Tom Barnes, with Brian & Steve also winning the nearest to
the pin in 2 shots on the 13th hole.
A nice course but probably not one
we will rush back to play again.

Information Update 28th May 2014
100th Day outing to Broadway Golf Club on 23rd May 2014
The committee felt that all players and partners who attended the dinner had a memorable day.
A big vote of thanks go to all who helped organise the event and especially our Chairman Phil who not only provided a full printed programme for the day, but also a history of the winners of the previous 99 outings, and hosted the evening.Jon Hawthorns team headed by Adam provided an excellent dinner, and the bar staff were relentless in supplying the necessary liquid refreshments. Thanks to all at BGC.
The post dinner entertainment was started with a few verses from our resident Poet Laureate Steve Jordan on the members of our society. Bill Payne gave us an insight on how to play golf on Christmas morning without it costing an arm and leg!!! Our own singing duet of Mike and David rounded off the entertainment with a rendition of 'Our Golf Clubs on our back' to the tune of The Happy Wanderer. Well done lads you all did our society proud.
Unfortunately the weather did not live up to the occasion and all 35 players were subjected to rain for the whole round, albeit that the course held up well but the overhead conditions had an effect on the scoring.
The prize winners on the day were:-

1st David Morris 37 points 2nd hole in two Russ Ralph

Outing to Kenilworth Golf Club on 2nd April 2014
24 members of the society played in our visit to this venue which for many was a new course. Whilst enjoying coffee and bacon rolls our chairman Phil Bennett presented the Chairmans Cap to himself !!! Phil you really must sort out your Cirencester from your Kenilworth.
Phil also wished well to David Milnes James and Bobby Hooper, who had spent a few days in hospital but was expected home today. Speedy recover to you both.
On a happier note Steve Jordan was unable to attend as he became a granddad again yesterday, congratulations to all the family.
The Kenilworth course was in good condition for this early in the season and playing of mats and forward tees did nothing to spoil an excellent competition day.
The greens were a little slower than Broadway members were used to but again did nothing to prevent some impressive scoring. In third place on 39 points was Steve Heritage with Tom Jelfs score of 43 points being beaten on count back by, you have guessed it Chairman Phil !!!
Nearest the pin on the 7th was won by Bob Crockford with Duncan Beale winning the nearest pin in two on the 14th.
An excellent golfing supper was provided by KGC and apres golf at The Bell rounded of an enjoyable outing.

Outing to Sapey Golf Club on 26thFebruary 2014
Having suffered the wettest winter for 200 years it was not unexpected that the Sapey course was somewhat wet underfoot!! This however did nothing to spoil a great competition with The Coach & Horses for the Neale Wolder Memorial Trophy.
14 players from the Coach& Horses and 22 players from The Bell took part.
Before setting of in dry and sunny weather, we enjoyed coffee and bacon rolls.
The Stableford competition threw up a large variation in scores but nothing could beat the 40 points by Nick Everall of the Coach & Horses to take the trophy with Bell players Keith Burke (38 points) runner up and Brian Lawrence (37 points) in third place.
Nearest the pin in 2 shots on the 3rd hole was also won by Nick Everall with Russ Ralph winning the nearest the pin on the 17th hole.
In the post dinner presentations Chairman Phil Bennett proposed a toast to absent friends and advised that £180 had been raised for a charity to be decided by Vikki.
Doug responded that The Coach & Horses now looked forward to The McWolder Cup match on Friday 11th July at Broadway GC and would put out the strongest team to try and regain the cup.
